Smear Clinic -  **The times of our drop in smear clinics are changing**

There will no longer be a clinic on a Friday morning this will be changing to a Thursday afternoon.

New times are as follows;

Tuesdays 11:30 - 12:20

Thursday 15:30 - 16:20

Privacy notice -If you have an email address, you will have had lots of messages from companies telling you about their privacy policy. As you probably know it's all to do with the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) coming into force 25th May 2018.

We hold data about our patients and staff too, and we have a privacy policy too!

There is a copy of our privacy notice on our website under 'Practice Policies', and we have posters displayed in our waiting areas.

 

If you wish to opt out of your health record being shared with other health professionals see post on the Welsh Health Record (www.gprecord.wales.nhs.uk ), or to opt out of receiving text message appointment reminders and health messages, please let us know

Pharmacists

Fazana (f)

Fazana is an experienced pharmacist who works with the practice every Friday.  She is expert in understanding the difficulties of being prescribed lots of different medications.  You may be invited in for a medication review with Fazana, particularly if you have a complex past medical history and are on many medications.

Community Midwives

The community midwives work with the doctors in providing antenatal and postnatal care. They run a clinic from the surgery once a week and also provide care in the home comprising a booking visit and post natal visits. They liaise closely with the hospital services & consultant staff and can refer pregnant mothers to all the Hospital Clinics and Parent Education Clinics, Breast Feeding Workshops, TENS Clinics, Self-help Skills Groups, Aquanatal Exercise Groups.

After the birth of the baby they can make referrals to Breast feeding Support groups, Post natal Exercise groups and Backache/Posture Groups. They are the link to most support services for pregnant mothers during and after pregnancy. They can be contacted on (029) 2093 2784.

Sister Helen Nicholas (f)

Helen's clinics are held on  Thursdays (all day), and she also runs booking clinics on Friday mornings.

Community Nurses

The district nurses are employed by Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust and work as part of our practice team. They mainly offer home based services including ongoing care of acutely and chronically ill patients, dressings, blood taking, ear syringing, advice on incontinence and the provision of medical aids. They can be contacted on (01495) 20300262, or out of hours on (029) 20444501 and have a daytime message service on (029) 20497152.

Health Visitors

The health visitor is an employee of Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust.  She is available to help with health matters relating to the under 5’s and advises on matters such as feeding, sleep problems, behaviour and development. She works alongside the doctors in the child development screening programme. She offers support to new parents, with increased support for those suffering from postnatal depression.

She has regular involvement in child health surveillance  shortly after birth, at 6-8 weeks of age, at the 6-8 month hearing test, 18 months and 3 years but can be approached at any time for problems in the under 5’s and provides advice on the childhood immunisation programme.

Sister Elizabeth Thompson (f)

Lizzy looks after the routine health of our under our under 5's.  She runs a clinic at surgery every Wednesday morning.

Counsellors

Mrs Aileen Doyle (f)

A counsellor is employed by Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust offers sessions based in the surgery to patients of the practice. Jackie Thomas is our current counsellor. She see patients on Thursdays and her service is accessed through a GP referral.

Attached Staff

Community Psychiatric Nurses/ Psychiatric Social Workers

The CPN’s & social workers are employed by Cardiff and Vale NHS trust and are based in the Pendine Centre, Cowbridge Road West, Ely. They work with the Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists providing support and community treatment programs for people with psychological problems in the area. They may visit people in their own homes or arrange for clinic appointments in The Pendine Centre.

Phlebotomist

We have 2 mornings each week where a trust based phlebotomist comes to the medical centre to take blood tests. On 2 other mornings a member of the practice staff takes blood tests if requested by the doctors.

George Thomas Nurses

These nurses offer support to those with terminal illness. They work closely with the doctors, district nurses, hospital based oncology and palliative care doctors and the Marie Curie service including Holme Towers Hospice and Y Bwthin.
